Print REbels – Haden, Palmer, Whistler and the Origins of the RE:

An exhibition which celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of the founder and first President of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, Sir Francis Seymour Haden. Prints by Haden and those who inspired him including Rembrandt and Durer are included along with works by Haden’s contemporaries including Samuel Palmer and JAM Whistler; members of the RA (including Desmet) who were or are closely associated with the RE and current RE Members responding directly to their Society’s heritage. The exhibition was launched at Bankside Gallery www.banksidegallery.com, London, from 25 April-13 May 2018 and is touring other venues including the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk; Burton Art Gallery, Bideford www.burtonartgallery.co.uk; and the School of Art Museum, Aberystwyth www.aber.ac.uk until early 2019. The book features a substantial fully illustrated catalogue written by the exhibition’s curator, Edward Twohig ARE with additional material by Anne Desmet and others. The book was also edited by Anne Desmet.
